Sustainability Problems
Film Annotation XI

  • Energy Crossroads was released in 2007 and directed by Christophe Fauchere. The central argument of the film is that fuel resources are running out and something needs to be done about it. The film draws out the problems of depleting fossil fuel supply, climate change, how it will affect society in the future. The most persuasive parts of the film are the explanations of the possibility of conflicts over oil supply areas. It gives an idea of the possible dangers that could come from depleting fuel sources.
  • Like all films in this class this film compels me to seek out more information on the efficiency of solar energy and wind energy. Also how these systems could be used in order to cut back on the need of fossil fuels. A usage breakdown of fuel and its respective use would be interesting in order to prioritize where cutbacks should begin. Also how much has been held back by lobbying for oil and coal burning industries?
  • This film best addresses adults without much of an understanding of resource issues. The film fosters an imagination of fuel wars in the future as well is disastrous climate issues, as well as ways that resources can be conserved. This film has the ability to help change mind sets of people as it scares them and then gives them an idea as to how to change issues.
  • The film suggests recycling to cut down on demand for petroleum based products, also that we need to cut back on transportation needs. It suggests many points of intervention by use of alternative energy sources.
  • The film did a good job in terms of being educational but it appeared that some statistics that were given off the top of some presenters heads. The film was too preachy at points as well, and not as much informative.
